You know those days when the tiniest thing sets you off? Someone chews too loud, the traffic light turns red, the laundry basket is somehow overflowing again… and suddenly, you’re ready to snap.


For me, those days often sneak up when hormones are running the show. It’s irrational, I know it, but that doesn’t make the feelings less real in the moment.


Here’s what I’ve learned: the irritation isn’t a sign that I’m broken or failing, it’s just a flare of energy that needs somewhere to go. And the best way through is to ground myself and remember: this moment will pass.


A Personal Story


The other day, I was feeling prickly and restless, nothing could soothe me. Out of habit, I scrolled TikTok. One silly video made me laugh. Then the next one got me again. And the next. Within minutes, I was laughing so hard I cried. Full-on tears streaming down my face. It was weird, but it felt so good, like the irritation had flipped itself inside out and shaken loose.


It reminded me that sometimes the best medicine isn’t deep or serious... it’s just finding a spark of joy in the middle of the storm.


A Few Calming Reminders


Breathe before reacting. Even one deep, slow breath is a reset button.


Move your body. A quick walk, stretching, or even shaking out your hands helps release the pent-up energy.


Laugh at something. Put on a funny video, a sitcom rerun, or call that friend who always cracks you up.


Tell yourself the truth. This is a hormonal wave. It’s not permanent. I am safe, I am worthy, I am loved.


And honestly, sometimes the irritation is just an invitation to pause. Not to power through or “fix” yourself, but to give yourself the same patience you’d give a friend.
